Trieste, historically known for its significant port, has long been a vital hub for trade and cultural exchange. The port’s influence has profoundly impacted the city’s urban landscape, creating distinct areas such as the industrial zone and the former harbor area, which have contributed to spatial divisions within the city.

The Trieste Master Plan began with an extensive research process, examining various facets of the city through detailed studies of its urban areas. This project focused on revitalizing a previously used but now neglected area near the city center, which includes a dock and a lighthouse. It addressed several urban challenges, such as inefficient transportation and spatial discontinuities. By integrating solutions for better land use, including relocating waterfront parking underground, the plan aimed to enhance connectivity and accessibility. It also involved renovating an old train station and creating new public spaces with swimming areas. This approach redefines the area as a usable space in the city’s center, linking it with nearby squares and incorporating repurposed historic buildings to serve modern needs and foster community interaction.
